Professor Mauricio Poletti, a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Mathematics (PGMAT) at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), was one of the recipients of the 2026 SBM Award, presented by the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM) for the best scientific paper published by an early-career researcher working in Brazil (within 15 years of earning a doctoral degree).
The award was granted for the article “Measures of maximal entropy for non-uniformly hyperbolic maps”, published in January 2026 in the Journal of the European Mathematical Society (JEMS). The paper was authored by Yuri Lima, Davi Obata, and Mauricio Poletti.
The award ceremony took place during the 12th Biennial Meeting of the Brazilian Mathematical Society, held in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Representing researchers affiliated with Brazilian institutions, the award was presented to Mauricio Poletti, professor at UFC and faculty member of PGMAT, and Yuri Lima, researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP) and former professor at UFC. The third author of the paper, Davi Obata, is a professor at Brigham Young University (BYU) in the United States.
The SBM Award recognizes outstanding scientific papers for their originality, relevance, depth, and potential impact on the advancement of Mathematics, making it one of the most prestigious scientific honors granted by the Brazilian Mathematical Society.
